Make the most of your therapy
Turn up
Even if you don’t know what to talk about or really don’t feel like it, turn up. There’s always progress to be made. The best way to sabotage your progress is to skip sessions.
Be curious about yourself
Try to look at your thoughts, feelings and behaviours with interest, and without judgement.
Give it time
Therapy isn’t a quick fix. We’re often working with patterns that have been in place for decades, so don’t expect them to change overnight. It will take time, but the change will be deep and lasting.
Reflect between sessions
Progress isn’t made only in your sessions. Take time to reflect, between sessions, on what we have discussed and what you would like to focus on next time.
Bring every part of you
This one may take time but letting me see the sides of you that make you feel embarrassed or ashamed will help us to do deeper work.
Keep a journal
I mean this in a loose sense; your journal may be handwritten, a series of voice memos on your phone or something else. As well as helping you reflect between sessions, it will show you how far you have come.
