How I work

  • My approach is integrative, which means I draw on different psychotherapeutic theories (humanistic, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural) according to what I think will work best for you. If you want to understand more about those theories, feel free to ask, but actually the theory isn’t as important as the relationship between you and me.

What matters is that you feel comfortable with me, that you’re able to open up without being judged and that you gain insight through our sessions. So I’m warm and compassionate, but I’m also courageous enough to hold a mirror up to you and challenge you when I think it will be helpful.

  • What to expect at your initial consultation

Expect to feel better by the end than you do going in – clients often say they do. They also comment on how easy it was to talk, having arrived feeling anxious and not knowing where to start.

I appreciate just how daunting it can be coming to talk to a stranger about your problems. So I’m really focused on putting you at ease and helping you to talk, without pushing you to discuss anything you don’t want to. We’ll talk about whatever is troubling you and what you want to get from therapy. You can also ask me any questions you have.

At the end, I’ll ask if you would like to book ongoing sessions, but there’s no pressure.

For individuals, I charge £120 for initial consultations held in person and £90 for those held online. For couples, I charge £180 for initial consultations held in person and £150 for those held online.

  • Ongoing sessions

If you decide to continue after your initial consultation, I will hold a weekly appointment for you. Appointments are 50 minutes long. If you choose face-to-face sessions, you can opt to have your session online any time you can’t get to the practice.

The fee for your ongoing sessions will be decided at your initial consultation. For individual therapy, I use a sliding scale, based on your ability to pay. Individual fees range from £120 to £160, or £90 to £130 if all sessions are to be held online. Couples therapy is £180, or £150 if all sessions are to be held online.
